Wrestlers to submerge medals in the Ganga.

India’s top wrestlers, who have been staging protests against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, a BJP MP and the chief of the country’s wrestling federation, have made the decision to symbolically “submerge” their medals in the Ganga river at the sacred city of Haridwar in Uttarakhand.

They believe that the medals hold no significance any more and are merely being used as a facade for propaganda by the system, especially in light of the accusations of sexual harassment levelled against Singh, including the abuse of underage female wrestlers.

The wrestlers have already departed for Haridwar and intend to carry out the medal submersion at 6 pm today. Following this act, they plan to commence a fast-unto-death protest at the India Gate in Delhi.

Yesterday, in the national capital, Delhi, there were distressing scenes of Delhi police personnel rough handling esteemed Olympians and Commonwealth Games champions during their protest march towards the newly constructed parliament.

People on social media across the country expressed their shock, highlighting the irony that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was inaugurating the new parliament building, often referred to as the “temple of democracy,” merely two kilometres away from where the Delhi police, which operates under the control of the central government, were observed using force against India’s esteemed female athletes.
